Core Processes

Decision Support System for Railway Infrastructure Maintenance & Renewal Management

CONDITION BASED MAINTENANCE

Condition-Based Maintenance eliminates "too early" preventive ant "too late" corrective interventions and is based on planned works produced with all the diagnostic data available. In this way diagnostic data are used not only as a function of control but also as a driver for maintenance activities.

The core processes of condition based maintenance include:

  • Data Collection, including tasks related the collection of inspection data coming from measuring vehicles/systems or other monitoring equipment; maintenance and renewal/construction data from works carried out on the railway infrastructure;
  • Data Analysis, including the validation, the processing and the analysis of data producing new information useful to understand the proper next maintenance action;
  • Planning, including preparation of the maintenance plans describing where, when and what maintenance is really required;
  • Control, including the final step oriented to check the outcomes of the executed activities and of the overall maintenance policy.
