Data Collection

RAMSYS / Core Processes

Taking under account the size of the railway networks and the complexity of the interrelationships between the various parameters and their joint or separate influence on the infrastructure components condition, it is clear that there is an enormous amount of data that have to be collected and managed in order to support maintenance planning and control.

Below a table including some details for the main data group types:

Groups/Types Infrastructure Asset Registry - Properties (type of rail, date of laying, etc.)
Layout Information (curves, etc)
Operational Cumulative load
Speed Limits
Annual Tonnage
Number of trains
Condition Status Measurements
Failures
Defects
Quality Indexes
Maintenance Practices Corrective, Preventive and Cyclic Maintenance Activities
Renewal Activities
Costs of maintenance

These data are usually collected on the field via dedicated systems or contained in various databases and storage systems, which require careful data-selection and transferring into the RAMSYS database to be used for the infrastructure condition-analysis and maintenance purposes.

The adoption of one of data collection modality will depend by many factors such as data types, place where the data is originated, frequency of update, possibility to automate the data acquisition and/or the business validation.

Three main modalities can be used to create, update, modify and delete data, namely forms, templates and data links.
