Hot Box & Hot Wheel Detection System

SIGNALLING


Hot Box & Hot Wheel detectors (HBD & HWD) are measuring devices installed along the line and designed to monitor axle, wheel and brake temperatures indicating any overheating which could lead to train accidents.

Systems consist of detection units located inside a special sleeper and a processing unit located at the trackside which collects the values measured by the detectors and transmits this data to the traffic control and monitoring section.

Hot Box & Hot Wheel Detectors are based on a system which measures the temperature by infrared radiation. The detection principle enables assessment of the degree of overheating and determination of an alert level, and sends the information to the central or local control/monitoring office.

HBD & HWD main characteristics:

  • Full compliance with EMV standard ENV 50 121-4 M
  • MNax. train speed:  500 km/h
  • Thermal imaging at temperature range: 0° C - 150°C
  • Effective range: -45° C - +70° C
  • Autocalibration
  • Flexible TCP/IP network integration
  • Ultra quick replacement of sensor modules with no adjustment requirement
  • Vibration protection and threshold monitoring
  • Continuous measurement of the entire bearing surface
  • Higher safety due to redundant scanning
  • 3-D thermal image recorded with ca. 500 scanned points at 500 km/h
