The Australian Minister for Transport and Infrastructure visits MERMEC

Monopoli, Italy – On November 16th the Australian Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, the Hon Anthony Albanese, has visited the headquarters of MERMEC in Monopoli (Bari).

The visit, which follows the meeting organised in November 2010 with the Italian State Railways (Ferrovie dello Stato) on board the diagnostic train Archimede, confirms the Minister’s attention and interest in the projects undertaken by the MERMEC Group on the Australian rail market.

"Some of the leading Australian rail companies," said Pietro Stama, Marketing and Business Development Director for the MERMEC Group, "have already chosen our technology to control their infrastructure and optimise its maintenance and renewal. As part of these projects, MERMEC will fit out, for example, a train dedicated to measuring infrastructure for Metro Trains Melbourne and another two diagnostic vehicles for RailCorp; in addition, John Holland Rail, Brooksfield Rail and Rio Tinto have already chosen RAMSYS, the decision-support software platform made by MERMEC and used by rail maintenance experts to optimise preventative maintenance work".

The visit was also an opportunity to brief the Minister on the latest developments in rail diagnostic technologies and automatic protection of train movements and on the forthcoming opening of an Australian based branch of the group that will assure after sales assistance to the Australian customers with skilled technicians.
