Pantograph Parameters

Pantograph Parameters

Many factors and parameters can affect the interaction between the pantograph and the catenary. Internal or external factors affect the dynamic behavior of the system and lead to parameter variations.

A pantograph in “non-standard conditions” might adversely affects the contact line or that requires a specific maintenance activities. A complete inspection of each of its parts is needed to perform data correlation.

Morph & Wear

This module realize a 3D measurement by analyzing the images of the trace obtained on the surface of the pantograph with a collimated laser beam acquired by a digital matrix camera.
The Morph & Wear module surveys:

  • the pantograph head as 3D point cloud for identifying defects of the shape of the head by comparison with a 3D model or with previous acquisitions of the same pantograph;
  • the upper surface of the contact strip for measuring its wear and lack of material from the contact stripes.

PantoSnap

This unit take a color picture of each pantograph to be saved with the information coming from the other modules. It uses standard color area scan camera together with proper infrared illuminating system. IR illumination is safe because is invisible to human eye thus avoid blinding of Infrared illumination is automatically activated in night time. Images during night time operation will be black and white (gray scale).

Y-Tension

The Y-Tension Module measures the vertical position of the contact wire in a time span around the transit of each pantograph, the vertical position is then used for determining the pressure against the contact wire. The acquisition starts when the train enter in the monitored area and stop when it exits.
Using the signal of the pantograph presence it is possible to save the data related to predefined time span extended before and after the pantograph transit.
