Brake Parameters

Brake Parameters

Brake are designed to wear. Nevertheless the wear rate has to be monitored in order to maximize the brake life and prevent failures caused by an inefficient interaction with the wheels that can damage them.

Wear trends can then be established and used for predictive maintenance. The rail wheel, and in particular the brake and its interaction with the wheel, represent a decisive factor in the sphere of safety and quality of railway transport.

Brake Pads Wear

The system measures the brake pad wear of both outgoing and incoming trains, and provides the base information to run an appropriate maintenance plan, keeping brake pads within the quality standards. The processing system performs the analysis of the measured parameters and comparison to defined tolerance thresholds. Alarms are automatically sent to the maintenance staff when unusual conditions are detected.
The system is implemented in two main configuration for the lining (L) and shoe (S) acquisitions and its modularity allows to cover the different brake pad positions.

Brake Disk Wear

The complementary parameter to the brake wear is the brake disk wear which is monitored by a dedicated system. The measurement system acquires the brake disks profile by means of high speed laser-camera triangulation technology determining the actual wear status and distribution. The processing system performs the analysis of the measured parameters and comparison to defined tolerance thresholds. The analysis and reporting software provides performance trending and predictive identification of intervention dates.

Brake Shoe Wear

The measurement system has been designed for operation in outdoor environment to monitoring break shoe wear of the train. The overall measurement system is mainly composed by a detection system and a processing system. The wear measurement is made by means of image processing of the pictures acquired by the detection system. The processing system performs the analysis of the parameters and comparison to defined tolerance thresholds. The analysis software provides performance trending and predictive identification of intervention dates.
