ITALY'S national train operator Trenitalia has awarded Teseo, a consortium of MER MEC and ECM, Italy, a €88 million contract to install signalling equipment on 685 of its locomotives.

The SSC/SCMT BL3 onboard sub-system will allow interoperability between two automatic train protection (ATP) systems used in Italy: SSC and the Train Operating Control System (SCMT). The equipment will be installed on Trenitalia locomotives in the first half of next year.

SCMT is compatible with the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), and has already been installed on around 5000km of the Italian network.
