ETCS Level STM

ETCS Level STM

Trains equipped with ETCS can run on lines where the class B system needs to be operated. ETCS acts as an interface between the driver and the national ATP.

ERTMS/ETCS trains with the national system’s Specific Transmission Module (STM) installed on-board can travel along the lines that are equipped with this system. STM equipment can provide ERTMS/ETCS with standard information taken from the information in the ground-based national systems and make it possible for the national system’s services to be used. MERMEC ETCS OBU can interface an external STM via the STM FFFIS standard bus or via custom interfaces. STM functions can be integrated in the OBU as well (bi-standard solution).

Wayside Subsystem

The wayside subsystem is based on intermittent track-to-train communication using LEU (Lineside Equipment Unit) and Eurobalise. It can, optionally, be integrated with advanced data infill for performance enhancement.

Interlocking LEU
  • Digitally acquires the interlocking status
  • Serial Communication via Euroradio+
  • Associates each status with a 1023 bit coded telegram
  • Transmits the telegrams to controlled Eurobalises
  • Monitors the Wayside Subsystem's functions and memorizes both sent telegrams and anomalies found
  • Communicates diagnostic messages to the diagnostics center in the station
  • Auto-diagnostic
Interlocking LEU

Signal LEU
  • Acquires, through direct interface, the signal status by measuring the electrical currents transferred from the interlocking to the lights
  • Associates each status with a coded telegram
  • Transmits the telegrams to controlled Eurobalises or to the microwave transponder
  • Communicates diagnostic messages to the diagnostics center in the station, by means of the same cable connected to the existing light signal
  • Auto-diagnostic
Signal LEU

Eurobalise
  • When energized by RSDD Antenna, sends a telegram to trains in transit
  • Class A
  • Auto-diagnostic
  • Functioning temperature: -40°C to 85°C

"GUARDIA" Onboard Subsystem supplied by ANGELSTAR

The on-board subsystem receives and analyzes the information about the trackside status and characteristics of the movement permission sent by the Eurobalise. It automatically applies brakes if the comparison of the actual speed with the permitted speed shows that restriction of the speed must be observed.

BTM Antenna
  • Energizes the balise
  • Acquires the telegrams transmitted from balise and Euroloop
  • Auto-diagnostic
  • Functioning temperature: -40°C to 70°C
BTM Antenna

European Vital Computer (EVC)
  • Realizes odometer functionality
  • Executes the software application
  • Collects all the diagnostic information
  • Auto-diagnostic
  • Functioning temperature: -25°C to 70°C
EVC

Driver Machine Interface (DMI)
  • Interfaces with the engine-driver
  • Auto-diagnostic
  • Functioning temperature: -25°C to 70°C
DMI
