The Driving Support System (SSC) is a new generation of automatic train protection solutions that increase the safety and performance of train operations. It continuously monitors the current speed of the train thereby guaranteeing that the maximum speed limit is not violated. In cases where action is required, the system can enforce the train's braking system.
Adopted by Italian National Railways on more than 5,000 km of rail lines, SSC brings to regional rail networks the same high level of safety and performance that RFI provides to high-speed and main rail lines. SSC is a cost effective solution, non-intrusive on track side and easy to maintain. The system consists of a Wayside Subsystem (SST) and a Onboard Subsystem (SSB):
The MERMEC diagnostic system is able to monitor the operating condition of the SSC wayside subsystem by analyzing semantics of the telegrams received from transponder/transponder TAG and by evaluating the Air-Gap Index. The system extracts the SSC diagnostic information directly from the Cab Signalling Systems in a non intrusive way.
